Social Bowls happens most Thursday’s of the year (check the Events Calendar to be certain).

It is a fun way to enjoy a game of bowls without the usual pressures of competition bowls. Don’t get me wrong, it can be fiercely competitive, but only in a friendly way and the emphasis is on playing bowls with like minded people and just having a good time.

Depending on the status of Daylight Savings, social bowls commences at 11:00am in winter and 12:30pm in Summer. Once again, check the Events Calendar to get the specific time you want to play.

There is a sheet in the clubhouse to register for a game, and you can also leave a message on the answer phone 03 5674 1655 to put your name on the list. The match committee look at the list of entrants after the closing time (9:30am in winter and 11:00am in Summer) and arbitrarily select the sides based on the number of entrants and the logistics of 3 or 4 member teams.

If you prefer a specific position in a team, write that next to your name or mention it on the phone message. The match committee will do their best to accommodate such requests.

Teams are selected, and random rinks are applied to the cards. Who you play with and who you play against on the day is a purely a matter of chance.
It’s a great way to meet new people in the club and get to know everyone. As I said, no pressure, playing social bowls is a good way to hone your skills. Your teammates are only too willing to pass on a tip or two if required.

The competition is Open to ALL bowling class members of our club AND of other clubs .
Visitors are always made extremely welcome.

Entry fee is $10 per day, which also includes a ticket in the end of day raffle where you can easily win your entry fee. Dress code is Mufty. We normally play two games of 10 ends.
In winter, lunch can be BYO, or soup is served in the kitchen for $2.
Lunch happens between games in Winter and in Summer lunch happens before the start, so it is BYO as no catering is provided.
Usually (because we sometimes juggle the rules) the winners are selected on the basis of Number of games won, Number of Ends won, followed by Shots UP.
Cash prizes are paid to the winning team and the Runners Up team.

The Skips

At the end of the two games, the bar is open, where everyone relaxes and enjoys some well deserved down time in the friendly clubhouse setting.

If all that inspires you, then make sure you get your name on the list for the NEXT social bowls outing – see the events calendar for details.
